Senator Schimpf asking residents to help show their support for fair maps proposal
State Senator Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo) says that the people of Illinois should have the right to decide whether Illinois adopts a new, fairer redistricting process.
“We have a chance to let the people have the final say on fixing our broken redistricting system,” said Senator Schimpf. “We owe it to them to pass the legislation and put the question on the ballot.”
Senator Schimpf is a cosponsor of SJRCA 4, which would place a referendum on the ballot during the next statewide election that would let the voters decide whether or not to adopt a new non-partisan redistricting system.
This would replace the current system where politicians are able to manipulate the redistricting process for political gain, which often times leads to confusing boundaries and uncontested elections.
Senator Schimpf is asking for the public’s help in advancing the legislation. He says it’s imperative that people show their support for the concept. The Senator is encouraging people to add their names to a petition at SenatorSchimpf.com to demonstrate their support.
“Passing this legislation will require help; we have to show the entrenched politicians that the people demand to see this question on the ballot,” said Senator Schimpf.
