SCHIMPF TOURS BALDWIN GENERATION STATION
SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Sen. Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo) toured the Baldwin Generation Station on Feb. 27 with members of the plant management.
Sen. Schimpf’s meeting comes on the heels of a 2016 reduction in force when Baldwin “mothballed” one of its three generating turbines that was driven by a flawed electricity market design. The coal-fired power plant is the cleanest-emitting plant in downstate Illinois.
Schimpf emphasized that he is encouraged by federal actions to be friendlier to coal-fired power plants. He also stressed that he was committed to helping find legislative solutions to protect energy security in downstate Illinois. Those efforts would ensure that the Baldwin plant will remain competitive with surrounding generation facilities in Missouri and Kentucky.
