SCHIMPF REACTION TO 2017 BUDGET ADDRESS
SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Sen. Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo) offered the following comments after the Governor delivered his third annual budget address on Feb. 15.
“Efforts are ongoing within the Illinois Senate to achieve budget progress and the Governor recognized those efforts. I appreciate the fact that he acknowledged the Senate’s attempt to find a solution to the impasse. It seems that we are closer to reaching a deal, but that deal must have significant budget cuts,” Schimpf said. “The budget must have a balanced approach that focuses on cuts first and revenues second. We must work on consolidating and eliminating portions of state government that are duplicative and that waste taxpayer monies. I applaud the Governor’s significant focus on helping Illinois’ businesses with pro-growth policies. Economic reforms to create jobs will be the most critical part of fixing our fiscal nightmare.”
