Sen. Schimpf spent several days this week touring businesses and sites in Southern Illinois. The locations are staples to the economic well-being and future success of the region. His recent stops include:
Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta, Ill.
Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, serves central Randolph County constituents with a service area encompassing Sparta, Steelville, Coulterville, and Marissa. The hospital employs 374 people from the region and received over 40,000 outpatient visits and nearly 10,000 emergency room visits within the last year.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital Complex, St. Louis, Mo.
Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and the Washington University School of Medicine comprise a large health care campus in St. Louis, Missouri. While not in the 58th Senate District, this facility employs southern Illinois residents and provides medical care for District 58 constituents.
Pyramid State Recreation Area, Perry County, Ill.
Pyramid State Recreation Area is the largest state recreation area in Illinois and contains 19,701 acres. The park is located within Perry County and is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). Sen. Schimpf’s Senate Bill 3307 was filed early this year. It would require IDNR to perform a strategic planning study on how to maximize the park’s potential. The bill has moved out of committee. Read about SB3307 here on ilga.gov.
MAC Medical Inc., Millstadt, Ill.
MAC Medical Inc. manufactures medical equipment in Millstadt. The company employs approximately 190 employees. Governor Bruce Rauner joined Sen. Schimpf for a tour and an informational session on the impact the company has on its clients and the southern Illinois region.
The Material Works Ltd. (TMW), Red Bud, Ill.
TMW processes steel and is a leasing site from Kaskaskia Port District. The company employs 90 people from in and around Dist. 58 and would like to hire more in the near future.
Red Bud High School, Red Bud, Ill.
Red Bud High School located in Red Bud, is within Community Unit School District 132. This week Sen. Schimpf met with administrators and students to discuss the changes the school faces. Sen. Schimpf is a cosponsor of Senate Bill 2260 that tries to fix the problem. The bill would amend the State Revenue Sharing Act. Read about it here: State Revenue Sharing Act - SB2260.
