SCHIMPF WEEKS IN REVIEW SEPTEMBER 18 - 29
MURPHYSBORO, IL - State Senator Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo) finished the month of September with a number of speaking engagements, constituents meetings, and a tour of the Prairie State Energy Campus.
Senator Schimpf spoke with the Illinois Licensed Beverage Convention in Alton, Illinois and addressed a Southern Illinois University Law School student group that focuses on the Second Amendment. As a graduate of the SIU School of Law, Schimpf was excited to interact with students who sat in the same seats he occupied twenty years ago. This new Second Amendment group is encouraging other students to join in their efforts to interact with the regional firearms dealers and ranges.
On September 26, the Senator attended the State of the University address in Carbondale. Senator Schimpf is encouraged by the new Chancellor's willingness to make the required changes that are necessary to change SIU Carbondale's trajectory. SIUC, the largest employer in the 58th Senate District, has seen its enrollments diminish over the last 10 years. In addition to structural changes, the school is exploring ways to bolster its recruiting processes.
Senator Schimpf closed out the month with a visit to the Prairie State Energy Campus in rural Washington County. The mine and power plant combination is one a only a small number across the nation. The facility burns Illinois coal and, as a result, supplies a great deal of "home-grown" energy to Southern Illinois and parts of Missouri.
Lastly, Senator Schimpf remains available to meet with his constituents at his office locations in Murphysboro, Mt. Vernon, Sparta, and Waterloo. Appointments may be scheduled by calling (618) 684-1100.
