SCHIMPF STATEMENT ON IDOC VISITS
MURPYSBORO, IL – State Sen. Paul Schimpf (R-Waterloo) offered the following comments after he toured two Illinois Department of Corrections facilities in Chester and Pinckneyville on April 12.
“Today was an enlightening experience for me. I witnessed firsthand the difficult job that our friends and neighbors do every day when they report for duty in our corrections facilities. Unfortunately they are too often the forgotten faces of our public safety system--they deserve our gratitude and respect,” Schimpf said. “Menard and Pinckneyville Correctional Centers are two completely different institutions with the same mission--administering justice and ensuring public safety. I want to thank the Department for giving me this opportunity to tour and I will keep our correctional employees in my thoughts and prayers. I will be an advocate for them in the Illinois Senate.”
Senator Schimpf has one of the highest concentrations of Illinois Department of Corrections employees in the state. Residents of his district work at Menard, Pinckneyville, Big Muddy River at Ina, the DuQuoin Incarceration Impact Camp, and the soon-to-be life skills center at Murphysboro, along with another half dozen or more institutions across Southern Illinois.
Senator Schimpf looks forward to visiting additional corrections facilities in the coming months when the Illinois Senate is not in session.
